Hotel information

I've gotten a handful of questions on accommodations for MVD 2011. There are some hotels near campus and of course many hotels downtown (between 1-2 miles away, depending on hotel choice). Here are some hotels in order of distance away from the McNamara center:

- University Hotel Minneapolis
615 Washington Ave Southeast, Minneapolis, MN
1.800.822.6757
http://universityhotelminneapolis.com/ This hotel is on the same block as the McNamara center. It is somewhat expensive (if you mention the university discount, it's $114 / night - without it, it's $167). Apparently they are close to full on Sept 30th, so I'm not sure that everyone can be accommodated here.

- The Days Inn Hotel University Ave SEA
2407 University Ave SE
Minneapolis, MN 55414
(612) 623-3999 www.daysinn.com
0.4 miles from McNamara. This is a basic hotel, but by all accounts, clean and pleasant. Rooms start at $63 / night.

- University Inn
925 4th Street SE
Minneapolis, MN 55414
(612) 746-1300
www.universityinn.com
0.8 miles from McNamara. With the University discount, single bed rooms start at $76.50. Looks nice, but I've never stayed there myself.

- Holiday Inn Hotel Minneapolis
1500 Washington Ave. South
Minneapolis, MN 55454
(612) 333-4646 www.holidayinn.com
0.8 miles from McNamara. $136/night weekdays, $167/night weekends. on the other side of the river (closer to downtown).

As I mentioned, there are many hotels downtown as well. If you type in "200 Oak St SE, Minneapolis, MN" into maps.google.com, then choose "search nearby" and type "hotel", Google will list many hotels in the area as well as ratings for these hotels.
