The mission of UMSEC is to bring together faculty, students, and industry to
advance the science and practice of software engineering.
To accomplish this mission, UMSEC is committed to:
- Research: Nurture innovative applied and basic research in software engineering
and related areas.
- Education: Educate generations of software engineering practitioners,
researchers, and policy-makers in cutting edge software technologies and business
practices.
- Outreach: Support the public service mission of the University of Minnesota by
forging partnerships with local industry to help enhance the economic basis of
the State of Minnesota
We believe that, for the software engineering profession to be effective and
serve society well, all three segments (research, education, and outreach) must
work together. Knowledge must be continually transferred between industry and
academe, encouraging a greater understanding of each other's needs, challenges
and opportunities.
