Call for Participation

We seek knowledgeable and articulate individuals, willing to share their expertise and real world experience in the area of Global Software Development, to submit presentation proposals for the Symposium.

This year's theme is Global Software Development. It is intended to cover both distributed and outsourced development, and the development of systems that are intended for a global audience.

Software development is not bound by the confines of the office, the company, or national boundaries. Software systems and the organizations that build and operate them are increasingly interconnected, complex, and widely distributed. The impacts of both personnel and product globalization to software practitioners, teams, and companies are significant and challenging to overcome. This symposium seeks to bring together researchers and practitioners to explore and share experiences with the globalization in the software industry.

All presentation proposals must be in English. Presentations will be accepted on the basis of the proposal. Three types of proposals are invited:

  1. Short talks, of 30-45 minutes with questions. Abstract and your presentation materials will be published in the proceedings.
  2. Panel discussions, of 60-90 minutes with audience participation. Abstract and position statements will be published in the proceedings.
  3. Posters, demos, or other activities that can be conducted from a table during the reception. Abstracts will be published in the proceedings.

All presentation proposals should include:

  • Title
  • Author name(s), title/position, institution, contact details for principal author (postal address, telephone, email address)
  • Title and authors of other proposals in which you are involved
  • Author(s) biography (75 words maximum)
  • Preferred format of the session (talk, panel session, etc.)
  • An abstract of 150 - 300 words

Presentation proposals will be reviewed by a panel representing UMSEC constituencies. Presentation proposals must be submitted by email in plain text or as PDF attachments to facilitate faster distribution to reviewers. The conference organizers may approach proposal writers to request changes in their proposals to better fit conference needs. The conference registration fee will be waived for authors of accepted proposals.

Please submit all proposals to with "submission" in the subject line. All presentation proposals must be submitted by 8 December, 2006. Decisions will be made by 15 December, 2006.
