Richard Chapman

Mr. Richard Chapman is a software engineer in the Division of Electrical and Software Engineering in the Office of Science and Engineering Laboratories of the Food and Drug Administration. He specializes in software-based medical devices, medical devices with embedded software, and infusion pumps. He has over 25 years of product and software development experience as developer and manager in the medical device and other industries before joining FDA in 2005. His medical device industry experience includes software development for infusion pumps, implantable defibrillators, heart rate monitors, respiratory test equipment, portable blood gas analyzers, dietary assessment software, and wild animal telemetry collars. He has a Masters Degree in Software Engineering from the University of Minnesota, and is currently working toward a Ph.D. in Computer Science.
