Susan Van Riper, Ph.D.

Biography: 
Susan Van Riper has worked as a technology leader for over 25 years at companies ranging from start-ups to fortune 100 companies. While having a broad range of technology interests, her passion centers around data, analytics, and process. Her recent and present work focuses on starting, developing, and accelerating data science practices, to deliver repeatable AI/ML solutions at scale, super-charging business value. Sue has a B.S. in Computer Information Systems from Winona State University, as well as an M.S. in Software Engineering, an M.S. in Computer Science, and a Ph.D. in Biomedical Informatics and Computational Biology from the University of Minnesota.

Building an End-to-End Data Science Practice in an Agile Framework

Data Science is the “sexiest job of the 21st century” – Harvard University. But the nuts and bolts of building an end to end data science practice with all the necessary governance and process management is perhaps one of the least sexy things we do. So, can data science work in an agile framework? While many detractors say no, the answer is ‘yes’ – with a few caveats. This talk will share critical knowledge of proposing, forming, developing, and sustaining a successful and valued data science practice using an agile framework – from the ground up.
