Steve Kan has worked at IBM for 20 years. He is currently the software quality process strategy lead for the Systems and Technology Group at IBM, and the process manager for software quality management for System i at IBM Rochester. His responsibilities cover all aspects of software quality ranging from quality goal setting, supplier quality requirements, quality plans, in-process metrics and quality assessments, to reliability projections, field quality tracking, and customer satisfaction. He is the author of Metrics and Models in Software Quality Engineering (Addison Wesley 1994; 2002) and numerous other professional articles. He is experienced in software project and process assessments. He led IBM Rochester's strategy in achieving CMM Level 5 assessment in 2004. He is a Certified Quality Engineer (CQE), Certified Reliability Engineer (CRE) and Certified Quality Manager (CQM) by the American Society for Quality, and a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) by the Project Management Institute. He has been the co-chair of the Industry Practices program of the IEEE International Symposium on Software Reliability Engineering (ISSRE) since 2005.
