Steve Kan has 34 years of experience in statistical and metrics analysis, software quality management, and process improvement, including 27 years at IBM Rochester, Minnesota. His most recent position was Senior Technical Staff Member (STSM) and Program Manager for software quality at IBM's Systems and Technology Group; retired in 2014. He is experienced in all aspects of software quality and software project and process assessment ranging from software metrics, quality goal setting, supplier quality requirements, quality plans, in-process metrics and quality certification, to reliability projections, field quality tracking, customer satisfaction and overall project and process assessment. He led IBM Rochester's strategy in achieving CMM Level 5 assessment in 2004. He is a Certified Quality Engineer (CQE), Certified Reliability Engineer (CRE) and Certified Quality Manager (CQM) by the American Society for Quality, and a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) by the Project Management Institute. He authored Metrics and Models in Software Quality Engineering (Addison Wesley 1994; 2002) and a number of refereed journal articles and technical reports in demography, health and medical research, and software quality.
