Effective Safety Cases: Experience and Strategies

This talk will discuss the challenges involved in establishing an effective safety case / assurance case regime - in terms of development, review, acceptance and through-life management. Based on the experience from existing domains (such as the defense, nuclear, automotive, and railway sectors) we will describe both positive and negative examples of safety case practice. Practical steps and strategies that can be used to develop and manage safety cases will then be described - including guidance on the use of structured argumentation approaches, safety case patterns, and rigorous review techniques.
